New Delhi, October 25, 2025: In an inspiring step toward eradicating hunger, Sudhamta Foundation India successfully conducted a massive two-day food distribution drive in Delhi on October 19th and 20th, 2025, as part of its flagship campaign “Feed India A Meal.” The initiative seeks to provide one nutritious meal to 10 million people in India by 2027, marking one of the country’s most ambitious social food security drives led by a non-governmental organization.
Addressing India’s Growing Hunger Challenge
Despite being one of the world’s largest food producers, India continues to face staggering hunger and malnutrition challenges. According to the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2024, India ranks among the most food-insecure nations, with over 194 million people still going to bed hungry every day. Factors such as food wastage, poverty, inflation, and unequal access to nutritious food have deepened the crisis — particularly affecting children and women in marginalized communities.
Recognizing this urgent need, Sudhamta Foundation’s “Feed India A Meal” campaign focuses not just on distributing food, but on redefining how India tackles hunger — through nutritional planning, sustainable sourcing, and community partnerships.
A Two-Day Drive That Made a Difference
The Delhi drive reached thousands of slum-dwellers, daily wage earners, and families in red-light districts and shelter homes. The Foundation’s volunteers distributed freshly cooked, balanced meals — emphasizing protein, fiber, and essential micronutrients — to ensure that beneficiaries received not just calories, but true nourishment.
The event brought together students, corporate partners, local authorities, and civil society groups in a rare act of unity, symbolizing a collective resolve to make food access a fundamental right.
Arumita Mitra: The Vision Behind the Movement
Founder and Global Director Arumita Mitra emphasized that hunger is not merely a food problem but a systemic social challenge that requires empathy-driven innovation. “Feed India A Meal is a movement to remind us that no one in a nation of abundance should suffer from hunger. It’s not charity — it’s our shared responsibility,” said Mitra.
“Our goal is to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of compassion, where communities take ownership of feeding their own.” – said Akul Singh , National HR Head of Sudhamta Foundation
Arumita also highlighted how the Foundation plans to integrate AI and data-driven logistics to track meal distribution, monitor impact, and reduce food waste — bridging the gap between technology and empathy. Joining the sewa for second time in a row, Ms. Palak Upadhyay and Kiran said, “Its such a beautiful feeling to distribute food by our own hands and the joy of giving is so blissful. As our foundation says, kindness liberates your soul, its such a wonderful feeling to be able to do Sewa.” Says the national team.
Solving Food Insecurity with Sustainable Models
Sudhamta Foundation’s approach goes beyond short-term aid. It’s developing sustainable food programs in partnership with local farmers, women’s self-help groups, and community kitchens. These collaborations ensure consistent access to affordable, nutritious food and provide livelihood support for vulnerable groups — creating a ripple effect of empowerment.
By 2027, the Foundation envisions extending the campaign to Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Odisha, and Jharkhand, Maharashtra where hunger and malnutrition remain critical challenges.
A Step Toward a Hunger-Free India
As India grapples with the paradox of abundance and scarcity, Feed India A Meal stands as a powerful reminder that organized compassion can rewrite the narrative. With every meal served, Sudhamta Foundation moves closer to its vision of a hunger-free, equitable India.
